BELONGING NEEDS MORE THAN A WELCOME SIGN

There is more than one way to be Jewish and more than one way to belong at JYC.

JYC welcomes Jews by birth and by choice, people from interfaith and mixed-background families, LGBTQ+ Jews, Jews of Color, Israelis, people with different levels of practice, people with disabilities, and people still deciding what Jewish life means to them.

Disagreement is welcome. Harassment, dehumanization, discrimination, unwanted sexual conduct, and pressure to disclose or defend a personal identity or political position are not.

What we practice

  • Curiosity before assumption
  • Respect for names, pronouns, identities, and boundaries
  • Consent before adding someone to a group chat or using a close-up photo
  • Confidential handling of accommodation and financial-assistance requests
  • Listening without demanding personal disclosure

What event listings should tell you

  • Whether Israel or politics is part of the purpose
  • How much ritual knowledge is assumed
  • What arrival, access, cost, food, and photography may involve
  • Who to contact privately before attending
  • What to expect if a concern is reported

Israel, antisemitism, and difficult subjects

Some JYC programs will intentionally make room for learning or facilitated dialogue. Those programs should be clearly labeled with their purpose and discussion expectations. At other events, no participant should be expected to debate, disclose, defend, or explain a political position.

Reporting and response

For an immediate emergency, contact venue staff or emergency services. For a non-emergency JYC concern, use the private form below or contact JYC directly. The report is visible only to authorized site administrators. JYC will acknowledge a report, assess immediate safety and confidentiality needs, and explain any next step it can responsibly take. We cannot promise a particular outcome before reviewing the circumstances.

You may leave your name blank. Provide contact information only if you want a response. Do not use this form for an immediate emergency.
