Coming on your own is completely normal.

Trying a new community can feel like a big step. JYC welcomes Jewish adults ages 21–39 across New Jersey, including people who are new to the area or arriving on their own.

Every event is different, so check its listing for the date, time, location, audience, cost, registration details, and anything else you need before you go.

Confirm that the event’s audience and timing work for you.
Review the price, registration deadline, and what is included.
Look for accessibility, dietary, dress, transportation, and cancellation information when relevant.
If an important detail is missing, ask JYC before registering.

Before you leave home

Keep your registration confirmation and the event location handy. Allow time to park or find the entrance when the venue is unfamiliar. If the event page provides arrival instructions, use those rather than relying only on a poster or social-media image.

When you arrive

You can simply say that it is your first JYC event. Coming alone is normal, and you do not need to explain your Jewish background or level of observance. Join conversations at your own pace. A Shabbat dinner, outdoor activity, learning session, or networking program may each have a different rhythm.

During the event

The purpose is to help people form genuine friendships and lasting Jewish connections—not to pressure anyone into a particular kind of participation. Ask questions when you are curious, step back when you need a moment, and participate in the parts that feel comfortable.

After the event

If you enjoyed the experience, choose another gathering while the connection is fresh. Joining the email list is the easiest way to receive dates, locations, costs, registration links, and arrival expectations without searching through group chats.

Accessibility and accommodations

Accessibility varies by venue and activity. Review the specific event information and contact JYC as early as possible with questions about mobility access, seating, communication needs, sensory considerations, or dietary needs. Do not assume that an accommodation is available until it is confirmed for that event.
