25A · ONGOING

Regional hub

Best for local plans, recurring conversation, and discovering people across the same part of New Jersey.

Lifecycle: standing channel with active moderation and periodic membership review.

25B · TEMPORARY

One-event chat

Best for arrival coordination and low-pressure connection around one specific event.

Lifecycle: closes or archives 14 days after the event.

PRIVATE ALTERNATIVE

No group chat

Choose email/digest follow-up if you do not want other participants to see a phone number, username, profile, or messages.

Contact option WhatsApp currently uses phone-number identities; until username privacy is available and enabled for my account, other group members may see my phone number and allowed profile details. I prefer WhatsApp anyway. I read the platform comparison above and understand that no group platform is anonymous. I agree to JYC conduct rules: no harassment, doxxing, unsolicited promotion, attendee-list copying, or sharing private event locations. I understand JYC may use an email alternative or waitlist while moderation capacity or a suitable channel is unavailable.

WhatsApp vs. Discord

WhatsApp	Familiar, fast group conversation	Phone number/profile exposure can occur in groups. WhatsApp announced usernames in 2026, but they are rolling out gradually and must be enabled.
Discord	Threads, roles, separate regional/event spaces, stronger moderation tools	Phone number need not be shared with members, but username, display name, account age, mutual servers, and permitted profile details can be visible.
Email	Private announcements or one-to-one staff routing	No participant directory or group visibility.

JYC never asks for a phone number in this form. A moderator emails approved invite information individually.
